Exponential Science Fellowship Policy
1. Introduction
The Exponential Science (ES) Fellowship Programme is designed to bring together leading researchers, entrepreneurs, and industry pioneers who are actively shaping the future of emerging digital technologies, including:
Distributed Ledger Technology (DLT)
Artificial Intelligence (AI)
Quantum Computing
Spatial Computing
Other emerging digital technologies
This programme aims to empower individuals to advance scientific research, policy, and innovation, ultimately contributing to the responsible and impactful development of these technologies. This policy outlines the expectations, benefits, and responsibilities of ES Fellows.
2. Fellowship Appointment & Status
Fellowship appointments are unpaid and separate from any commercial engagements or employment contracts with ES.
Fellows are not employees of ES and do not receive employee benefits, tax withholding, pension benefits, or unemployment benefits.
Fellows must use the title “Science Fellow” or “ES Fellow” in all public engagements related to ES, including research materials and conferences.
ES reserves the right to advertise a Fellow’s affiliation and use their name, image, and bio on ES materials during the term of the Fellowship.
3. Eligibility Criteria
To be eligible for an ES Fellowship, nominees must meet the following criteria:
Be senior academics leading DLT, AI, Quantum, Spatial Computing, or Emerging Tech-focused groups, labs, or research centres within their institutions.
Demonstrate at least 3 years of active and impactful contributions in research, policy, or industry innovation in any of the above areas.
Hold an affiliation with a university, research institution, or industry organisation relevant to ES’s mission.
Commit to actively contributing to ES’s research, education, outreach, events, and collaborative initiatives.
Uphold strong ethical and professional standards aligned with ES’s values.
4. Nomination and Evaluation Process
Nomination Submission
The nominator is responsible for:
Preparing the ES Fellowship Nomination Form, and ensuring the nominee meets all eligibility criteria.
Optionally soliciting up to two endorsements supporting the nomination.
Submitting the ES Fellowship nomination form.
Evaluation and Selection
The selection process for ES Fellows involves:
Assessment of technical achievements, policy impact, and leadership contributions.
Review of feedback from references and endorsers.
Scoring based on innovation, research impact, and alignment with ES’s mission.
Shortlisted candidates may be invited for an interview with ES representatives if necessary.
Final selection of new ES Fellows.

6. Engagement with ES and the Fellowship Community
Fellows are encouraged to actively contribute to ES initiatives through:
Submitting content for ES’s newsletter, including updates on publications, research, patents, conferences, and industry developments.
Assisting in the development of proprietary tools and innovative research projects.
Participating in joint consultations on industry projects.
Mentoring and supervising PhD students.
Co-authoring research papers.
Attending and speaking at ES-sponsored or third-party events.
Applying for research grants in collaboration with ES.
Co-organizing seminars, workshops, and hackathons.
Fellows are further encouraged to:
Promote ES’s mission within their institutions and professional circles.
Pursue funding opportunities to support ES’s financial sustainability.
Facilitate communication between ES, universities, and industry partners.
Share information about ES’s grants and initiatives within their networks.
Disseminate research and findings associated with ES and its partners.
7. Professional Conduct & Ethical Standards
Fellows must uphold professional and ethical standards in all activities associated with ES.
Any conflicts of interest must be disclosed when contributing to paid work under the ES affiliation.
Fellows must not promote specific technologies or vendors using their ES association.
Fellows are not authorized to enter into agreements or incur obligations on behalf of ES.
Any Fellow found engaging in unethical or unprofessional conduct may have their Fellowship terminated without notice.
8. Liability & Indemnification
ES assumes no responsibility for content distributed by Fellows or third parties.
ES shall not be liable for any direct, indirect, or consequential damages arising from a Fellow’s participation.
Fellows agree to indemnify ES against claims, liabilities, damages, or losses arising from their Fellowship activities.
9. Termination of Fellowship
The Fellowship may be terminated by either party with one month’s written notice.
ES reserves the right to terminate a Fellowship immediately in cases of misconduct or failure to adhere to this policy.
10. Governing Law & Dispute Resolution
This policy is governed by the laws of England and Wales.
Disputes shall be resolved in the courts of England and Wales.
By accepting an ES Fellowship, individuals acknowledge and agree to abide by this policy.
